India's COVID vulnerability may rise in October-November

The Central Government has emphasized that India’s COVID vulnerability may increase in October-November. 

Several estimates had stated that the third COVID wave may hit the country around that time. With more than 62% of the population being partially vaccinated now, the situation will be different from the first two waves. Niti Aayog member (health) Dr VK Paul said that the next two-three months will be very crucial as any surge seen anywhere in the country has to be curbed immediately.

Dr Paul added that October and November are the months of festivities and flu. Therefore, caution must be exercised in these two months. The situation in the country is more or less stable with the weekly positivity rate for the last 11 weeks being less than 3%. Kerala has also shown improvement; however, 68% of the daily COVID-19 cases are still being reported from the state, reported the health ministry… (HT, September 16, 2021)
