Britain to test mixed COVID-19 vaccine dose schedules in kids

A British study is going to assess the immune responses to mixed COVID-19 vaccine dose schedules among children in a bid to ascertain the best approach to a second dose, considering a minor risk of heart inflammation.

Children in the age group of 12-15 years will start getting vaccinated in Britain from next week, while 16- and 17-year-olds have been eligible since August. The children will be offered a first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine; however, the advice on the second doses will come later, as more data is accumulated.

The Com-COV3 study will evaluate different vaccine schedules in children aged between 12 and 16 years, and assess the immune responses as well as the milder side effects…(Reuters, September 17, 2021)
