The number of new COVID-19 cases registered a decline of 15% in India in the week ending Sunday. This is the lowest weekly case count in over six months, with the count in Kerala dropping by a whopping 21%.
There were 2.14 lakh fresh infections recorded in the country in the week from September 13-19, compared to 2.51 lakh during the previous seven days. This represented the lowest case count reported in 27 weeks since March 8-14, for weeks ending Sunday. Last week, the number of new cases had registered a 13% decline, while in the week prior to that, there was a drop of only 0.6%.
Kerala still accounted for 62% of the cases in the country during the week; however, the state registered 1.33 lakh new cases, with a fall of 20.6% from the previous weeks figure of more than 1.67 lakh… (ET Healthworld – TNN, September 20, 2021)
