US death toll from COVID-19 surpasses that of 1918 pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed the lives of more Americans now than the 1918 flu pandemic.

Over 675,000 people in the United States have succumbed to COVID-19, revealed data from the Johns Hopkins University. The figure has surpassed the estimated death toll in the country from the deadly pandemic of the 20th century. The lessons learned from the 1918 pandemic that could help curb the current pandemic included not abandoning the safety precautions too early, not getting a false sense of security among the young and healthy, and not depending on unproven treatments. However, Stephen Kissler, an epidemiologist from the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health, said that many people did not take note of these lessons.
