R-value declined to 0.92 in India by mid-September after surpassing the level of 1 by August-end, stated researchers.

However, the R-values in major cities, including Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Bengaluru, persist over 1. The R-values in Delhi and Pune are below 1. The values for Maharashtra and Kerala are also below 1. 

The R-value was reported to be 1.17 by the end of August. It came down to 1.11 between September 4 and 7 and has continued to be below 1 since then. The R-value for Mumbai is currently reported as 1.09, for Chennai 1.11, for Kolkata 1.04, and for Bengaluru 1.06… (ET Healthworld – PTI, September 21, 2021)
