A lesser number of dermatologists among the population is the barrier to care. Thus, many children who need dermatologic care are seen by primary care providers and general dermatologists.

General dermatologists, therefore, must be familiar with important updates in this field and must manage a broad range of pediatric skin conditions.

The greater understanding of the etiologies, risk factors, clinical manifestations, and natural histories of a wide spectrum of dermatologic disorders in children and have rendered new management strategies and treatment options for these patients. But a gap has been created between what was learned by dermatologists during their residency training and current evidence-based recommendations. The busy General dermatologists thus need an easy source of information, relevant to their pediatric patients to keep themselves updated.

To address this issue, a collection of pediatric dermatology articles published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD) has been recently launched. The initial collection is of articles from the last 3 years, available at JAAD.org.

With the important developments in pediatric dermatology, key articles will be further added to the collection. In addition to the articles, a series of commentaries on practice-changing pediatric dermatology articles will also be available in the JAAD

The manuscripts with the greatest impact on the understanding or management of pediatric skin disease will be included in the compilation. Upcoming topics include sleep disturbances in and systemic therapies for atopic dermatitis; late growth and topical timolol treatment of infantile hemangiomas; and advances in management for molluscum, periorificial dermatitis, and alopecia areata.
