India's active COVID cases lowest in 187 days

India registered 31,923 new COVID-19 cases, with the overall tally now rising to 3,35,63,421, as the active cases came down to 3,01,640, the lowest in 187 days, stated the Union Health Ministry data on Thursday. With 282 new deaths reported in a day, the death toll increased to 4,46,050. The fatalities include 142 from Kerala and 48 from Maharashtra.

The active cases now constitute 0.90% of the total infections, the lowest since March last year. The COVID-19 recovery rate for the country stood at 97.77%, the highest since March last year.

The country’s daily positivity rate stands at 2.09%. It has remained below 3% for the past 24 days. The weekly positivity rate has been recorded at 2.11% and has been less than 3% for the last 90 days. A total of 3,28,15,731 people have recovered from the disease while the case fatality rate stood at 1.33%.

The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country thus far has crossed 83.39 crore.

The health ministry emphasized that over 70% of the deaths in the country occurred due to comorbidities.
