Quality of CV fat in midlife women may predict later cognitive function

The quality of cardiovascular (CV) fat among women in midlife may be able to predict their cognitive function later in life, noted a new research.

Meiyuzhen Qi, of the University of Pittsburgh, reported that high radiodensity of perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT) around the descending aorta in women in midlife, average age around 51 years, had a significant association with worse working memory later in life. Each unit increase of PVAT was tied to a 0.29 unit reduction in working memory, stated Qi during a presentation at the virtual meeting of the North American Menopause Society (NAMS). It was noted that the quality of fat around the blood vessels had a significant association with cognitive function later, but fat volume was not significant.
