The drug regulator in India has allowed Serum Institute to recruit children aged between 7 and 11 years for its COVID-19 vaccine trial.

A subject expert panel of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization stated that the committee recommended to allow the enrolment of children 7 to 11 years of age as per the protocol, following thorough deliberation.

Serum Institute is already carrying out a study of its COVID-19 vaccine, which is a domestically produced version of Novavax′s vaccine, in 12-17-year-olds, and has submitted safety data for an initial 100 participants.

Only Zydus Cadila′s DNA COVID-19 vaccine has been given emergency use approval in the country thus far for use in adults and children aged 12 years and over.
