USPSTF Reaffirms Recommendations on Aspirin for Preeclampsia Prevention

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) reiterated its recommendations stating that pregnant women having a high risk of preeclampsia must take a daily aspirin regimen at the end of the first trimester.

In grade B recommendations, the task force suggested a daily, low dose of aspirin (81 mg) for at-risk pregnant women for the prevention of preeclampsia after 12 weeks of gestation. The updated recommendation reaffirms the 2014 recommendation on the use of low-dose aspirin for prevention of preeclampsia, and includes stronger evidence for reduced risk of perinatal death. The task force concluded with moderate certainty that there is a considerable benefit of daily low-dose aspirin use among high-risk pregnant women for decreasing the risk of preeclampsia, as well as preterm birth, small for gestational age or intrauterine growth restriction, and perinatal mortality, stated the authors in JAMA… (Medpage Today)
