FDA May Authorize Half-Dose Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine Booster

The US FDA is likely to authorize half-dose booster shots of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

Regulators are of the opinion that the half-dose jab could provide enough protection. It is not clear when an official announcement will come about the vaccine booster. Moderna vaccine’s initial jabs contained 100 microgram doses, and the submission for extra shots by the company has advocated for 50 microgram boosters shot. Pfizers initial and booster shots contain 30 microgram doses. Bloomberg News reported that a half-dose jab could possibly make side effects from a booster dose less likely.

At present, booster doses are available for recipients of the Pfizer vaccine aged 65 and above, adults residing in long-term care facilities, adults with some underlying health conditions, and workers who are at a high risk of contracting COVID-19… (Medscape, September 30, 2021)
