Troponin Levels Associated with Increased CAD Risk

According to a new study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, patients having myocardial infarction (MI) ruled out in the emergency department but still having intermediate high-sensitivity cardiac troponin concentrations have a 3-fold increased likelihood of having coronary artery disease (CAD), compared to the patients who are ruled out with low troponin concentrations.

High-sensitivity cardiac troponin could therefore assist in identifying patients who need coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) to detect occult CAD and guide the use of preventive therapy for the prevention of future MI, noted the authors.
