India registered 22,842 fresh COVID-19 cases taking the total number of infections to 3,38,13,903, while the active cases dropped to 2,70,557, the lowest in 199 days, revealed the Union health ministry data updated on Sunday. 

The country recorded 244 new deaths, taking the death toll to 4,48,817. The active cases constitute 0.8% of the total cases, representing the lowest figure since March 2020. The COVID-19 recovery rate in the country was recorded as 97.87%, which is the highest since March last year, stated the ministry data. There was a reduction of 3,332 cases in the active caseload in 24 hours. The daily positivity rate stood at 1.8% and has continued to be below 3% for the last 34 days.
