Australia records over 2,000 fresh COVID-19 infections in a day

Australia recorded 2,029 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, as two of its most populous states continue to remain under extended lockdowns.

New South Wales recorded 623 fresh cases and 6 deaths, down from 667 cases and 10 deaths reported on Sunday. The state of Victoria reported 1,377 fresh cases, rising from 1,220 on Sunday. The state recorded 4 new deaths.

New South Wales is expected to start lifting some restrictions from October 11, the first Monday after it expects 70% coverage of its population aged above 16 with full vaccination. As of Monday, around 67% of its population had been fully vaccinated. Victoria is expected to achieve 70% coverage by October 26… (Reuters, October 4, 2021)
