Covaxin may get clearance from the World Health Organization (WHO) by next week when the agency and an independent group of experts convene.

This comes about a week after WHO delayed the emergency use authorisation (EUA) for India’s indigenous vaccine against COVID-19 as the agency sent more technical queries to the vaccine manufacturer.

The WHO stated in its tweet, "WHO & an independent group of experts are scheduled to meet next week to carry out the risk/benefit assessment and come to a final decision whether to grant Emergency Use Listing to Covaxin." It said in another tweet that Bharat Biotech has submitted additional information after WHOs request on September 27, adding that the experts are reviewing the information and if it addresses all the questions, the assessment will be finalized in the coming week… (NDTV, October 5, 2021)
