(TNN) The medical authorities in Malappuram have recommended a strong legal action against a Naturopathy hospital in Manjeri in the district, after a 23-year-old woman died at the hospital within hours of delivery through alternative birthing method. The report says that the death of woman happened due to the clear medical negligence from the part of Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yoga (BNY) qualified doctor. The woman who was admitted to Naturopathy Birthing centre attached to the Ernad Hospital in Manjeri, gave birth to baby and within hours, her health condition became serious due to heavy bleeding due to unscientific method of delivery. Though she had been shifted to the Gynaecology ward of modern medicine section of the hospital, she died.

As the family of the victim was not ready to register any complaint regarding the incident, medical authorities initiated the suo moto action based on the reports given by field workers of heath department. The DMOs report is recommending police action against Dr Abir Hyder, naturopathic obstetrician and gynaecologist of the hospital and other staff of the hospital including his wife Hudha Fathima.

It is to be noted that, the doctor is accused of a similar case related to the death of a new born baby within hours of birth through water birthing method, at a naturopathy hospital at Venniyur near Kottakal, in October 2016. Police had registered a case against the doctor in the incident and the investigation is still on. An investigation regarding the incident, conducted by a team of medical officials led by Deputy DMO of Malappuram Dr R Renuka had revealed that the centre which has only certificates for naturopathy treatment was misleading people by false information regarding the water assisted deliveries and the team had also found that person who runs the centre was not an expert in water birthing process.
