If the regulations on a 12-16 week interval between the two doses of Covishield are not changed, around 25% of India’s adults will not get fully vaccinated by the end of 2021.

As of Friday 7pm, more than 26 crore of the 94 crore adult population in the country, or about 28%, had not received even their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Almost 90% of the vaccination has been through Covishield, and this year has only 12 weeks left.

Covaxin’s share in the vaccination drive is only 11.6%. As a large proportion of the vaccination is presumed to be with doses of Covishield, most of the people getting its first dose after Friday would be able to get the second dose next year.

The proportion of population which has not received any vaccination varies widely, with 43% in Jharkhand and 39% in Uttar Pradesh to zero in Himachal Pradesh… (ET Healthworld – TNN. October 9, 2021)
