Covaxin gets emergency use approval for children 2-18 years old

The subject expert committee of the national drugs regulator has given emergency use approval for Covaxin in children aged 2 to 18 years. 

An official stated that the efficacy of the vaccine among children has been found to be similar to that in adults. A decision on whether it will be included in the national vaccination program is yet to be taken. This is the second vaccine against COVID-19 to be approved for emergency use among children in India after ZyCoV-D, which is to be administered in children above 12 years of age.

A senior official said that according to the data submitted by the company, the vaccine appears to be safe and efficacious in children and the experts were of the opinion that it should be allowed for children… (HT, October 12, 2021)
