India registers 19,000 new COVID-19 cases, modest increase in last 2 days

India on Wednesday registered 19,156 new COVID-19 infections and 245 fatalities. For the past two days, the country has seen a minor increase in cases. 

It could be due to the regular weekday effect or the ongoing Durga puja. At the time of reporting, the figures from UP and Jharkhand were awaited. Only a few districts are reporting more than hundred cases a day. Only 28 districts reported over 100 new cases, with Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur districts in Kerala at the top, reporting over a thousand cases each. Among the 14 districts in the state, four registered more than a thousand cases, and eight districts had cases between 500 and 1000. Wayanad reported 387 cases, while Kasaragod recorded 250 fresh infections.

Bengaluru Urban is the only district in Karnataka to have recorded more than a hundred cases on Wednesday. In Maharashtra, Mumbai, Pune, Raigadh, Ahmednagar and Thane logged more than a hundred cases. In Mizoram, the figure was above hundred in Aizwal, while Khordha in Odisha had logged over a hundred cases. Tamil Nadu’s three districts- Chengalpattu, Chennai and Coimbatore -and Kolkata and North 24 Parganas in West Bengal also made it to the list.

The states reporting more than a thousand cases included Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Mizoram.
