Resident doctors at the RG Kar Medical College (RGKMC), Kolkata, continue their protest over pending demands, even after TMC MP Santanu Sen and four MLAs held a meeting with some of the protesters at Mohit Mancha on Sunday. Representatives of the agitating students were also present. Six members of RGKMC also attended the meeting.

One of the students said after the meeting that the presence of the principal had led to a frightening atmosphere in the college, adding that they were being threatened and police were being sent to their homes.

The students demanded the principal’s resignation. The protestors will continue with their strike until they receive a guarantee that their demands will be met.

The relay hunger strike and cessation of work by some 350 resident doctors has been going on since October 9. Their other demands include reinstatement of the RGKMC union, a transparent hostel council and increased number of hostel beds for female resident doctors.
