FDA to allow mixing and matching of COVID-19 vaccine boosters

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) plans to allow people in the United States to receive a different booster shot of a COVID-19 vaccine than the one given as the primary series, reported the New York Times.

However, the government would not recommend any particular jab over another, and it might note that using the same vaccine as a booster dose when possible is desirable. The FDA had authorized a booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech two-dose COVID-19 vaccine for individuals aged 65 years and older and some high-risk people in the month of September. FDA’s advisory panel has also recommended the use of Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccine booster shots… (Reuters, October 19, 2021)
