Today is World Osteoporosis Day

Globally, one in three women and one in five men, aged 50 years and above, will suffer an osteoporotic fracture. Osteoporosis is a condition that makes the bones weak and fragile, and as a result of that, they break easily. A mere 20% of the patients with osteoporotic fractures are diagnosed or treated for the underlying condition, that is, osteoporosis.

World Osteoporosis Day, celebrated every year on October 20, marks the beginning of a year-long campaign which aims to raise awareness of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease.
