Doctors in Egypt, while treating a man for abdominal pain, found a mobile phone in his stomach.

Gulf News reported that the man was experiencing severe abdominal pain and was admitted to Aswan University Hospital. After multiple tests, including X-rays and CT scans, a strange object was detected in the man’s stomach which was causing inflammation.

After surgery that went on for two hours, a phone was retrieved which the man had swallowed six months ago, stated the news website. It is not known why the man swallowed it.

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Aswan University, Dr Mohammed Al Dahshouri, said that this was a first-of-its-kind incident. The patient was informed about the hazards of swallowing the phone, following the surgery, and he was told that it posed a huge threat to his life as the battery contains harmful chemicals.

The patient’s condition is stable, the doctor told the news website.
