A booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine was found to be 95.6% effective against the SARS-CoV-2 virus in comparison with vaccinated individuals who did not receive the third shot, suggest data from a large study released by the companies.

The companies stated that the booster shot was tested on 10,000 individuals, 16 years of age and above, who had received two doses in earlier trials. A booster dose given around 11 months after the second jab had a favorable safety profile and worked against the Delta variant of the coronavirus, mentioned the companies. The data is yet to be submitted for peer review.

The trial results were announced a day after the U.S. FDA authorized booster doses of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines… (Reuters, October 22, 2021)
