AY.4 Variant of Coronavirus Detected in Six Fully Vaccinated Individuals in MP

Six people in Indore in Madhya Pradesh have been identified as infected with the new coronavirus variant AY.4, reported a health official on Monday. 

According to a report from the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Delhi, six individuals were found to have infection with the AY.4 variant of coronavirus. Their samples were sent for genome sequencing along with the samples of other infected people in September, stated chief medical and health officer (CMHO), B S Saitya. He added that all of these six persons were fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and have recovered after treatment.

Saitya stated that more than 50 people who came in contact with these six persons over the last few days have been found to be healthy after testing. Dr Anita Mutha, head of microbiology department at Government Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, Indore, said that AY.4 is a new variant and there is lack of information about its severity… (News18 – PTI, October 25, 2021)
