One in 50 people in the community had COVID-19 infection last week in England, suggest latest data.

Numbers obtained from the Office for National Statistics, based on swabs collected from randomly selected households, suggest that an estimated 2% of people had coronavirus infection in the week ending October 22, which represents around 1,102,800 individuals. In the week prior to this one, about one in 55 people in the community in England were estimated to have COVID infection.

Such figures were last reported in the weeks around late December and early January. The data also suggest that infection levels increased in all age groups during the week, except for those in school year 12 to 34 years old. Over 9% of children in school years 7 to 11 were reported to be infected in the week… (The Guardian, October 29, 2021)
