The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for use in children 5 to 11 years of age. It has become the first COVID-19 vaccine to be authorized for younger children in the United States.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will now advise on how the vaccine should be administered to young children. It will be decided when a group of outside advisers will convene on Tuesday.
