FDA authorizes COVID-19 vaccine for young children

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for use in children 5 to 11 years of age. It has become the first COVID-19 vaccine to be authorized for younger children in the United States.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will now advise on how the vaccine should be administered to young children. It will be decided when a group of outside advisers will convene on Tuesday. A 10-microgram dose of the Pfizer vaccine was authorized by the FDA for use in young children, which is lower than the 30 microgram dose used in the original vaccine for individuals aged 12 years and above… (Reuters, October 29, 2021)
