CDC Reduces Children's Reference Lead Level

The U.S. CDC has lowered the blood lead reference value (BLRV) for its first update in around 10 years and maintains that there is no safe blood lead level (BLL).

The BLRV of 5.0 µg/dL, notified in 2012, has been reduced to 3.5 µg/dL, stated PerriRuckart of the CDC, and colleagues in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. The change in BLRV is based on the 2015-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES).

However, the CDC group warned that the BLRV is not a safety threshold as there is no safe level of lead. The group also suggested that the change should prompt stricter lead testing practices… (Medpage Today)
