China Imposes New Curbs Due to Latest COVID Outbreak

Beijing has imposed new COVID-19 restrictions to check a serious outbreak as the capital maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy.

China′s top epidemiologist Zhong Nanshan said that a countrywide outbreak could be contained within a month but cautioned that it is not possible to eradicate the pandemic within a short period of time. The latest outbreak has affected at least 14 provinces in China and millions of people have been tested in the past week. In Beijing, all cinemas have been closed until November 14 in the Xicheng district.

The country reported 59 locally transmitted cases on Saturday, the highest since mid-September, which includes two cases in Beijing linked to a tourist group. Though the number is low compared to the figures being reported in other countries, authorities are pushing Beijing to curb the virus spread ahead of the Winter Olympics… (NDTV – AFP, October 30, 2021)
