HPV vaccine decreased cervical cancer rate by 87%: Study

Young women vaccinated against human papillomavirus (HPV) in their teens with an older vaccine known as Cervarix had a reduction in risk of up to 87% for developing cervical cancer linked to the virus, stated a study.

When the vaccinated women were in their 20s, those who had been administered the vaccine at 12-13 years of age had cervical cancer rates 87% lower than unvaccinated women who had been screened for the cancer. The rate was found to be 62% lower when the vaccine was given between ages 14 and 16 years and was reduced by 34% in those vaccinated at 16-18 years of age, noted researchers in The Lancet. Rates of a precancerous condition were decreased by 97% when the vaccine was given at ages 12 to 13 years… (Reuters, November 4, 2021)
