England's COVID R number declines, could be below 1

The COVID-19 weekly reproduction number, or R number, for England was estimated to have dropped to 0.9 to 1.1, stated the UK Health Security Agency on Friday. It further stated that the epidemic appears to be dwindling.

An R number between 0.9 and 1.1 signifies that for every 10 individuals infected with COVID-19, they will go on to infect, on average, between 9 and 11 other individuals. Last week, the R number was estimated to be between 1.1 and 1.3. The daily increase in infections was estimated to be around -1% to +2%, in comparison with +1% to +3% during the previous week… (Reuters, November 5, 2021)
