Alcoholic liver disease (ALD), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), are common diseases, so often co-occur with T2DM. A bidirectional relationship occurs between liver disease and T2DM. Both ALD and NAFLD seems to be the risk factors for T2DM, as a risk factor for more-severe liver disease in individuals with ALD or NAFLD.

The augmented risk of CVD, cancer, and mortality between individuals with T2DM equated with those without diabetes is well known. Evidence shows association occurs between NAFLD and CVD among people with diabetes, though further statistics is required in terms of defining the natural history of NAFLD.

Hospital records of ALD or NAFLD are related to variable degrees with an increased risk of CVD, cancer, and mortality between people with T2DM.

The statistics from a national unit of persons with T2DM display a history of hospital admission with ALD or NAFLD is associated with increases in incident/recurrent CVD, cancer, and all-cause and selected cause-specific mortality and self-sufficiently of main risk factors. This amount of ALD or NAFLD, therefore, is associated with further increases in risk of early mortality, CVD, and cancer among people with T2DM further than the risks associated with T2DM and key risk factors alone.
