Topical PDE4 Inhibitor Found Effective in Trial of Seborrheic Dermatitis

A topical phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4) inhibitor led to rapid improvement in seborrheic dermatitis, especially the scalp lesions, in a randomized clinical trial.

Two-thirds of patients who received roflumilast 0.3% foam had significant improvement in affected body surface area (BSA) after 8 weeks in comparison with less than 30% patients in the control group. A similar proportion of patients administered roflumilast had at least a 4-point improvement in pruritus score, and nearly 80% of patients treated with the drug had marked improvement in itch by week 2. Treatment-related adverse events were infrequent with roflumilast (1.9% vs 4.2% with the vehicle control). The findings were presented at the Inflammatory Skin Disease Summit… (Medpage Today)
