Over 10,000 patients contracted COVID-19 in a hospital, shows analysis

An analysis of federal and state records has shown that over 10,000 patients were diagnosed with COVID-19 in a U.S. hospital in 2020 after they were admitted for some other complaint. The number is an underestimation as it largely includes patients aged 65 years and above, besides California and Florida patients of all ages.

Around 21% of the patients who caught COVID-19 infection in the hospital between April and September last year died, suggest the data. In comparison to that, around 8% of other Medicare patients died in the hospital during that time.

On an average, nearly 1.7% of U.S. hospitalized COVID patients were diagnosed with the infection in U.S. hospitals, revealed an analysis of Medicare records from April 1 through September 30, 2020… (CNN, November 7, 2021)
