A doctor in Canada′s British Columbia province reported the world′s first patient affected with climate change who was suffering from asthma. His condition enhanced following the recent wildfires in Kootenays, a region that, according to the BC Wildfire Service website, has faced over 1,600 wildfires this fiscal year.

The Head of the Kootenay Lake Hospital′s emergency room (ER) department, Dr. Kyle Merritt, stated that the increased heatwave had exacerbated health issues like diabetes, heart failure, etc. Dr. Merritt also discussed the matter with medical professionals in the neighboring provinces of Prince George, Kamloops, Vancouver, and Victoria. As an initiative, he gathered a few medical professionals for Planetary Health to investigate the strong and straightforward link between changing climate and human health.

COP26 summit in Glasgow, hosted by the United Kingdom, united global leaders, and technology giants was conducted to find a global response to the increasing threat of climate change and adverse public health. Activists have criticized deals and announcements that were not aggressive enough to make a meaningful difference.
