Pfizer and BioNTech have requested the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to expand the emergency use authorization of their COVID-19 vaccine to allow its booster shot for everyone aged 18 years and above.

The company is submitting a study of booster effects on 10,000 individuals, stated a company news release. In September, an FDA advisory panel had rejected Pfizer’s idea of booster shots for all above 18 years of age. However, the committee recommended the booster shots for people aged 65 and above, essential workers, and those who had some underlying health conditions.
