Germany Advises Against Moderna Vaccine for Under 30s

Health authorities in Germany have advised against the use of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for people aged below 30 years on account of the evidence of a small risk of cardiac inflammation.

The Stiko vaccine commission quoted studies which indicate that mRNA vaccines, in rare cases, resulted in myocarditis and pericarditis in younger individuals, with a slightly higher prevalence in people who received the Moderna jab. It stated that for people above 30 years of age, there is no higher risk. The Stiko updated the COVID-19 vaccine guidance and recommended that people below 30 should only be vaccinated with the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 shot. The guidance covers both initial vaccinations and booster jabs, even if the first vaccine was a Moderna shot… (NDTV – AFP, November 10, 2021)
