COVID-19 cases declining everywhere except Europe, says WHO

The World Health Organization stated on Wednesday that deaths due to COVID-19 increased by 10% in Europe in the past week. It added that Europe is the only world region where both COVID-19 cases and deaths are showing a steady rise. It was the sixth week in a row when the virus has surged across the continent.

The agency, in its weekly update on the pandemic, said that there were around 3.1 million new infections worldwide, with about a 1% rise from the previous week. Around two-thirds of the infections, say around 1.9 million, were in Europe. The cases surged by 7% across the continent.

The countries with the highest numbers of new infections globally included the United States, Russia, Britain, Turkey and Germany. The number of weekly COVID-19 deaths declined by about 4% across the globe and fell in every region except Europe… (ET Healthworld – AP, November 11, 2021)
