India registered 12,516 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the total case tally to 3,44,14,186, amid a decline in active cases to 1,37,416, which is the lowest in 267 days, reported the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.

The number of deaths due to COVID-19 increased to 4,62,690 as 501 new fatalities were added, as per data updated at 8 am. The daily rise in fresh COVID cases has been less than 20,000 for 35 days in a row and has been below 50,000 daily new infections for 138 straight days now. 

The active cases currently constitute 0.40% of the total infections, which is the lowest since March last year. The national recovery rate stood at 98.26%, the highest since March last year, revealed the ministry.
