INSACOG says Delta main variant of concern, others negligible in sequencing data

According to the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG), Delta variant of coronavirus is the main variant of concern and other variants of interest or concern (VOI/VOC) are negligible in sequencing data from the country. 

In a bulletin, the INSACOG stated that there is no change in the global scenario. The Delta variant, including B.1.617.2 (AY) and AY.xsublineages, remains the major VOC globally. According to a WHO update, Delta has surpassed other variants in most countries of the world with a declining prevalence of other variants among the sequences submitted to publicly available datasets or reported to WHO.

The INSACOG further stated that in India also, Delta (B.1.617.2 and AY.x) continues to be the main VOC, adding that no new VOI or VOC has been noted and other VOC and VOI apart from the Delta variant are now insignificant in sequencing data… (ET Healthworld – PTI, November 11, 2021)
