Dutch govt imposes partial lockdown to tackle rising COVID cases

Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, announced Western Europe′s first partial COVID-19 lockdown of this winter. The government has imposed three weeks of restrictions for shops, sport and catering.

He said that the move was in response to record number of cases and increase in intensive care cases. A large part of Europe is witnessing a surge in infections, which could partly be attributed to low vaccine take-up in several countries. 

Denmark has also re-instated a COVID pass that was eliminated in the month of September. During the three-week partial lockdown, non-essential shops will be closed at 18:00 (17:00 GMT), while supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and hotels will be shut at 20:00. Professional and amateur sport will continue, behind closed doors though. Casinos, saunas and hairdressers will also close at 18:00. A maximum of four guests, above 13 years of age, will be allowed at people′s homes. Additionally, people have been directed to work from home as much as possible… (BBC, November 13, 2021)
