WHO Restarts Evaluation of Sputnik V COVID-19 Vaccine

The World Health Organization has restarted a process that can pave the way for emergency authorization for Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19, after several months of uncertainty.

WHO Assistant Director General, Mariangela Simao, said that a lot of interchange of information is needed but the process has restarted. WHO emergency use authorization would be a tag of quality for the Russian vaccine, and will enable the vaccine to have a wider recognition. The authorization could also enable the use of Sputnik V in the Covax initiative.

Neither the United States nor EU medicines regulators have granted authorization for Sputnik V yet. Simao stated that the WHO has yet to receive the full dossier on the vaccine… (NDTV – AFP, November 13, 2021)
