Women's reproductive health disrupted by pandemic stress, finds study

A recent research presented at the Society for Endocrinology annual conference has revealed that women′s reproductive health has been disrupted due to the psychological burden of the COVID-19 pandemic. It further stated that the affected women require additional medical and psychological support.

The study suggested that the stress and sleep disturbance associated with the pandemic had detrimental effects on women′s menstrual cycles. Researchers assessed the impact of the pandemic on reproductive health and conducted a survey of more than 1,300 women in April 2021. Around 56% of the participants reported that there was an overall change in their menstrual cycles since the onset of the pandemic. About 64% reported a worsening in pre-menstrual symptoms and 54% reported having reduced sex drive. Rates of severe depression, anxiety and poor sleep increased over two-fold compared to the pre-pandemic levels for women of reproductive age… (HT – ANI, November 15, 2021)
