China is witnessing its biggest COVID-19 outbreak due to the Delta variant. Certain areas have restricted entry of people from a northeastern city where cases have increased faster than anywhere else in the country over the past week.

The country recorded 1,308 locally transmitted infections with confirmed symptoms in the mainland from October 17 to November 14. The latest figure crossed the 1,280 local infections reported during a summer outbreak caused by the Delta variant, as per Reuters calculations based on official data.
