India logged 8,865 fresh COVID-19 cases in a span of 24 hours, the lowest in 287 days, as the overall caseload in the country rose to 3,44,56,401, according to an update from the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday.

The number of active cases in the country came down to 1,30,793, which is the lowest figure in 525 days. A total of 197 deaths were reported in a single day, taking the death toll to 4,63,852. The daily surge in new COVID-19 cases has been less than 20,000 for the past 39 days and has been below 50,000 for the past 142 days.

Active cases now constitute 0.38% of the total infections, the lowest since March last year, and the recovery rate stood at 98.27%, the highest since March last year. There has been no major surge in infections in the country even after the festivals… (Financial Express, November 16, 2021)
