All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) plans a soft launch of its surgery block from November-end. OPD providers for patients requiring surgery and observe-ups will be carried out on the new surgery block, and regularly even in-affected person providers will probably be made operational.

AIIMS has a separate surgery block with a 200-mattress facility, 12 operation theatres, and provision for state-of-the-art ICU services for a decade, but the development was slow. Presently, the wait time for patients requiring surgery, most of whom are cancer patients is up to three years. According to the officials, the new block would help to carry out extra surgeries and reduce the waiting time for critically ill patients.

To decongest the primary OPD, the mom and little one block of AIIMS was conceptualized, and the foundation stone was laid in 2014. In July, AIIMS partially opened ‘mom and little one’ block for the general public. But due to numerous reasons like lack of funds and the Covid-19 pandemic, operation of the venture was delayed. It has 400 beds and 12 operation theatres to provide different services solely devoted for mom and little one care.
