The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has initiated a new long-term study to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on children and young adults.

A total of 1,000 children and young adults, 3-21 years of age, who have tested positive for COVID-19, will be followed. The study will evaluate the effects of COVID-19 on their physical and mental health, including their development and immune responses to the virus. The NIH stated that while evaluating the long-term health effects of COVID-19, the researchers will also assess the risk factors that cause complications.
