Samiran Panda, head of epidemiology and infectious diseases at the Indian Council of Medical Research and one of the members of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI), stated that the Indian government is open to the view of providing an additional dose of Covid-19 vaccine to people who are immunocompromised due to different diseased conditions and may not produce enough immune response. An additional dose of the Covid-19 vaccine may be required by immunocompromised people such as cancer patients, who are under chemotherapy and may not be able to generate sufficient immune response to remain protected.

Panda further said that the Indian government is clear on continuing the vaccination drives to cover maximum eligible adults but was not currently considering the administration of the booster doses.
