Austria to impose full lockdown as COVID cases rise

Just a few days after Austria imposed a lockdown on unvaccinated individuals, the country is set to go into a full national lockdown starting Monday.

Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg announced that the lockdown would continue for 20 days and people would be legally required to get vaccinated against COVID-19 starting February 1, 2022.

Several other countries in Europe are also imposing curbs as cases increase. According to latest data, the COVID-19 incidence rate increased to 1,049.9 cases per 100,000 people in the last week. According to Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein, a lockdown was a "last resort". During the lockdown, people will work from home, non-essential shops will remain closed, and schools will remain open for children who need in-person learning. The restrictions will remain in place until December 12, but will be assessed after 10 days… (BBC, November 19, 2021)
