On 25.07.2018, the Hon’ble Delhi High Court stated that there was no legal basis for the government to insist on documents like Aadhaar or bank passbooks in order to provide the benefits of maternity scheme to pregnant and lactating women in the city.

A bench of Hon’ble Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Hon’ble Justice C Hari Shankar stated that the Delhi government must not insist on these documents for providing benefits to people who were eligible under maternity schemes, such as Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY). The government was further asked to promote the benefits of such schemes as many women were not aware about them.
